Rare Two Pound Coins
Cardiff City (2011, Wales). Ranked second rarest, like the Edinburgh coin, Cardiff £1 coins in perfect condition can sell for up to £30, but most sell for around £5. The £2 coin was the first bi-metallic coin issued in the UK since tin farthings with a copper plug in 1692. There are 479million £2 coins in circulation – although a good few are stashed away – as 31% of adults in the Uk who save money in a coin jar or piggy bank save £2 coins. Three new commemorative designs were released in 2018. For a two pound coin! While the coin has not yet been taken to the coin auction – which we can only presume is an incredibly fun place that looks like Scrooge McDuck’s vault – experts say the coin’s odd look is similar to one found in another super-rare coin, a silver 2p, that was found earlier this year and was estimated to be worth £. Just 485,500 such coins entered circulation, topping the list of the most sought-after £2 coins. These coins can fetch upwards of £40 at auction, with one recently selling for £44 on eBay. The rarest of these are the 2-pound coins minted in 2002 that celebrate the 2002 Commonwealth Games and bear the flag of Northern Island. Only 485,500 of these coins were ever minted. This coin was one of four different 2-pound coins issued in 2002, celebrating the XVII Commonwealth Games.
